Stimulating the Mind: Healthy Benefits of Playing Bingo - Articles Surfing

We live in a society that is obsessed with staying and looking young. There are a lot of diets, dietary supplements and surgery out there in the market that promises to do that for us. So what is the connection between bingo and staying young? There must be a reason why senior citizens love having bingo nights with their friends and families. Yes, besides the quality time that you get to spend with our families and winning big, bingo also keeps your mind stimulated and can make you feel young

It keeps your reflexes sharp

In playing bingo you need to have your reflexes in tip-top shape to enable you to act accordingly if you hear your number being called. Being fast also enables you to call out 'bingo!' beating other contestants who will do the same. Compared to non-bingo players, bingo players usually have a sharp reflex that is honed by constantly playing the game.

Increases speed and mental agility

Speed and mental agility is also important in a bingo game. You need to have the ability to scan multiple cards and mark the number called in a limited number of time. The game will not wait for you to be finished; you need to be fast enough not to be left behind. As we grow old, the blood vessels in our brain are running slower. In order to increase brain activity, you have to use your brain fast. Using less of our brain as we get older will result to less flexibility and decreased state of mental awareness. That's why old people like playing bingo because it stimulates the mind and exercises the brain.

Sharpens your memory

In a study comparing bingo players to non-bingo players, bingo players scored better in tests that the non-playing group. Their answers were more accurate and they answered the test faster than the other group. They also have the increased ability to absorb information about the environment rather than the non-playing group.

Keeps your body moving

Whenever people retire, their actions are limited due to the decreased body activity. Playing bingo can keep our bodies moving and simulates a work force environment where your body and mind are constantly working. Playing bingo will keep you up to your toes and will lead to the maintenance of high spirits and high energy level.

Decreases probability of depression

Playing social bingo will enable you to be surrounded by many people all at the same time which would counter the loneliness you might feel that comes with getting old. You get to be acquainted with fellow bingo addicts and would have bingo friends. It enhances your interaction with other people who probably share the same passions as you do. Human companionship is an effective way to counter depression, and constant human companionship will dissolve depression all together.

Before you type cast bingo as one of the games where you'll just be swindled out of your money, it's time to think again. Bingo provides a lot of healthy benefits for the body as well as your mind. Playing bingo will not only enhance your playing skills but also improve your well-being.
