Golf Holes And Green Courses - Articles Surfing

Golf is played on a tract of land named as Golf course. It is not a small field but a huge field consisting of series of holes. There are two meanings to hole, a hole as in where ball is hit it is also known as 'the cup'. Then a hole is also named for a total distance of pre-determined area from where a ball is first hit also known as 'tee' to the low cut area surrounding the actual hole in the ground known as 'green'.

Nine or eighteen holes are the limited capacity of most Golf courses. The nineteenth hole is explained as the term for a bar/grill at a clubhouse.

Golf courses have fine grass on their course, this is usually so that ball can easily role over distances of several yards. The direction in which the grass is grown also matters because the individual blades of grass often affect the roll of a golf ball. It is called grain in the language of Golf.

Roll of the ball can be affected by the slope of the green, which is also named as break in Golf language.

Diameter of 108mm and a depth of at least 100mm are maintained between the cup (hole) that is always found within the green.

Positioning of the cup (hole) on the green can vary from day to day. Flag on the pole is mostly positioned at the cup, so it is noticeable from a distance for the players. Flag and the Pole are termed as 'Pin' in a golfer's language.

If the Golfers find a light stroke can role a ball at a good distance, then they term it as 'Green being fast'. If it is the opposite case, then they term it as 'Green being slow'.

Borders for a Golf course are marked and therefore ball cannot be played out of boundaries that are set for the Golf course.

Saying that there are practice ranges on the Golf course, where Golfers usually practice, it is usually on the bunkers (name used for sand traps), or practice green or even driving range.

Any Golf course or club is associated to a Golf school. Remember, you don't have to be golf pro to learn how to golf. You can take golf courses at your leisure and learn how to play in no time.
