LEST WE FORGET

REMEMBERING THE FALLEN

My Farther died many years ago and it took me two years before I could bring myself to go through his personal papers (he kept in an old shoe box) without getting upset.

I knew from a very young age that my farther had been a soldier in W.W.2 1939-1945 and that's all I knew? That all changed when I opened up the old shoe box and found his "army papers "medals" letters" and photos".

Now please do not think this is some sentimental trip for a guy who is missing his farther "it's true I do miss my farther" and I miss him everyday and always will.

But the reason I am doing this article is to get some things of my chest that have been annoying me for a long time. My farther never ever mentioned his army days other than to say he had some very good friends in the army.

Now I will not go into detail what my farther did during W.W.2 just to say his discharge papers read like a list of DVDs and the films that have been made on this battle or that battle.

I also noticed in his discharge papers that he was often in trouble with the powers that be looking at the many times he was made a corporal then back to a private then a corporal and so on.

OK to the point of this article.
My farther died aged 77 and considering knowing what I know today it's amazing he made it so far.

Yet after all he and millions more endured during 1939-1945 the same kind of apathy and injustice is still being dished out to our servicemen & women in today's military. Instead of receiving the grateful thanks of the nation for putting there lives on the line everyday. They risk being put in jail for not paying there "tax" water rates" television license" Gas bills" est.?

WHY

when and IF they come home they are given sub-standard housing.
Talk about lest we forget.

WHEN WILL THE MAN IN THE STREET STAND UP AND SAY
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH THESE MEN AND WOMEN LAY DOWN THERE
LIVES EVERY DAY SO WE CAN LIVE IN PEACE THEY DESERVE BETTER?

The Roman Army did not tax its soldiers?
Talk about modern society and progress?
Give me a break.

The last few years of my father's life were spent worrying about insignificant silly little things like having a T.V license? For God sake this is a man who fought for his country? And here he is worrying what the country will do to him if he has not got a T.V license.

I don't see any of the politicians standing in front of today's brave young men and women explaining the poor housing conditions they can expect to return too after serving there country "do you?

This is not just about a silly T.V license fee this is about showing the respect these men and women deserve and earn past & present everyday.

My Father was lucky he came home 'millions did not' and many will not from today's conflicts but please let us give them the respect they deserve and that means the best we can offer as a nation.

Because what they get in return is quite honestly "shameful" it always has been and will continue to be until everyone of us together stands up and says this is "not good enough" for our troops.

LEST WE FORGET

I have put together a memorial day tribute that was featured on BBC radio and television and over 47 stations worldwide there are two free audio downloads available on the site as a thank you for visiting
