Music is an important tool to calm the mind. Its healing effects have to been to humans for hundreds of years. People practice music for different purposes. While some pursue it as a mere hobby or a means to pass their free time, others are more serious and practice it in a professional manner. Music does not have any kind of barriers. It can be leaded by people of all regions or ages. The only important thing here is that the person must show curiosity to learn all the nuances of music.

After the decision to learn music has been made, next comes the task of selecting the right musical instrument. If we think as far as a decade ago, the number of musical instruments available was less. But this is not the case today. The range of musical instruments available has been increasing day after day. Before setting off to buy musical instruments there are some basic factors which you need to consider.

a) Firstly, you must observe the type of sound that each instrument gives out. The main point here is that the type of sound given by the instrument should be satisfying to you when you hear it. Instruments producing cacophonic sounds should not be selected. There are a number of ways to go about this task. There are a number of websites on the internet which have sound clips of sounds produced by different musical instruments. Some CDs of music composed by many great performers playing different instruments can also be found in the local CD stores.

b) Trying out each instrument ' some music store owners are very harsh and don't let you touch the music instrument unless and until you buy it. However, there are some other music stores which let you the instruments to observe the sound they produce. Pick the instrument which produces the sound that pleases your soul.

c) The sound produced by the instrument should also match with the personality of the individual. Shy and silent persons should do well with instruments producing soft sounds and the same type of reasoning holds well with tough persons.

d) You will also need to consider the money that you will have to spend on purchase and subsequent maintenance of the musical instrument.

e) Instruments should also be selected depending on the surrounding in which they will be played so as to prevent inconvenience to the people around you.
