Using Organic Plant Nutrients in Your Garden - Articles Surfing

When shopping around for nutrients for your hydroponic system, you have probably noticed that there are two general options: organic and non organic. Assuming that these nutrient blends are well balanced and come from a reputable hydroponics supply company, they can provide your plants with what they need to grow and thrive well. So why do so many opt for the organic solutions over the synthetic solutions? And why does it seem that organic growing increases in popularity with each passing year? There are several reasons really why people go organic.

Higher Nutrient Levels - Some evidence exists that organic plants grown organically are healthier for you than those grown through more modern conventional methods. Using only organic plant nutrients makes each piece of food denser in dry matter, meaning that there is more food and less water. When you do not use chemical pesticides, it also forces the plant to rely more on its own natural defenses. This means that they naturally produce more of the antioxidants that make fruits and vegetables so healthy for people.

More Environmentally Friendly - Generally speaking, growing hydroponically already has some environmental benefits over traditional growing. Since less water is lost through absorption in the soil, less water is needed. It also allows you to grow more food in less space, meaning it does not take up any of the ever-shrinking supply of arable land. But if you want to go extra green in your grow room, you should consider using organic plant nutrients and using only organic methods to control pests. Using fewer chemicals and pesticides means that fewer of these compounds will end up down the drain, therefore lending some protection to our oceans and other bodies of water.

More Valuable Products - If you are growing produce or flowers to sell at your local farmers market or to local florists, using strictly organic plant nutrients can be a boon to your business. Because organically grown plants are rarer and people know that they have the more benefits, they are often willing to pay a premium for produce that has truly been grown organically. This way, you can justify charging more than other growers, but still find steady business.

More Room for Error - In hydroponics, you have control over every aspect of the kind of lighting your foliage receives, the kind of nutrients your roots receive, and the general environment that your plants grow in. If all these factors are adjusted correctly, it can lead to greater yields than anything you can get anywhere else. However, if conditions are significantly less than ideal, it can cause serious harm to your plants. This is especially for true for the nutrients that you use. If you over fertilize or make your nutrient solution too concentrated, it may do serious harm to your plants roots. By using only organic plant nutrients, this is much less likely to happen. Roots suck up organic material at a much more controlled pace than they do chemical solutions, which makes over fertilizing with organics more difficult.
