Morocco Lamps - Beauty For Every Style - Articles Surfing

To add a touch of something uniquely beautiful to any room, Morocco lamps are ideal. They are a practical way to add a dash of style because you're combining an unusual piece of d*cor with an essential need of any room, which is additional lighting.

The most traditional version of Morocco lamps is the intricately pierced metal lamps that are seen throughout old Mosques and palaces suspended by metal chains. These over-sized metal chandelier lanterns can be updated for electrical lighting and are made in scaled-down versions that are quite lovely for dining rooms and living rooms. But there are also many other less familiar styles that are traditionally Moroccan in origin, so be sure to explore the many options available from Moroccan d*cor stores.

Pierced Metal
The most traditional of Morocco lamps, pierced metal lamps are usually made of ironwork, tin or copper and are geometric in shape, having five, six or more sides as well as a top and bottom. They are usually intricately designed with pierced fretwork of stars, flowers or geometric repeating designs.

These lamps create beautiful, lacy patterns of light and shadow when lit that will dance across the walls of the room. The hanging versions are usually quite large and come to a point at the bottom and are often set with small jewel-toned glass beads. The table size models are smaller and can be found in votive candle sizes up to large, reading lamp sizes depending on your needs.

Stained Glass
Stained glass Morocco lamps also have some pierced metal elements, but the stained glass takes center stage and the metalwork is less elaborate. These lamps can be found in floor sizes, table sizes and in hanging models for just about any use. These are especially popular for using outside in covered patio areas.

The stained glass in Morocco lamps is done in gorgeous, jewel-toned shades like amber, garnet, deep blues and emerald. For more interest, the glass often has an intricate pattern pressed into it that adds depth and refracts the light as it shines through. Some lamps use one color of glass while others might combine several colors for vivid effect. These stained glass lights are perfect for subdued mood lighting.

Leather
The most unusual Morocco lamps are made of goatskin leather stretched over a metal frame then decorated with henna paste. The finely tanned leather is dyed in rich, deep colors ranging from creamy tans to vivid purples.

These are the most whimsical of Morocco lamps, with many unusual shapes and styles that will add a fantasy-like touch to your d*cor. One of the most popular and enduring of these is the tall, triangular lamps that are made from a pyramid-like metal frame that is slightly curved to give the appearance of a pyramid that is actually waving or curving in a breeze. Covered with sheer leather that is etched with a delicate tracery of black henna in patterns such as paisleys or swirls, these lamps feature curly iron feet and finials.

You can also find leather lamps that are cylinders or squares; each with wrought iron frames and etched with henna patterns. These give off a soft, ambient glow that is suitable for mood lighting and are particularly nice for those dark corners where you need some light to brighten things up and add a dash of color. For a more dramatic statement, look for some of the leather Morocco lamps that are scaled for floor use. Some are over four feet tall! These are sculptural elements that can become true focal points.

When shopping for Morocco lamps, be sure to find an online store that imports directly from Morocco. Some stores go through distributors who purchase from many different factories or suppliers that are merely making reproductions. For the highest quality, a Moroccan import company that goes directly to the source is the guarantee of the most beautiful Morocco lamps.
