Instead you must be responsible for these things yourself, and you must learn how to minimize the many distractions that can be present when you work at home. Children and pets are one of the major distractions people face when they work at home, and this is especially true if the reason you work from home is to provide care for them. Throughout the day they can be demanding of your time and attention which can prevent you from getting any work done. In order to minimize the distractions that they present try working during times when your pets or children are sleeping or away from the house. For example, you may find that it is beneficial to work while the children are at school or before they have gotten up for the day rather than try and do it in the middle of the afternoon. Should this not be an option consider hiring a babysitter for a few hours each week to give you some time to focus solely on your work. Many people that work at home find the internet to be a major distraction. This is due to the fact they can easily waste an hour or more surfing through websites, checking out the latest news or shopping for items via stores online or popular auction sites such as eBay. Overcoming the distraction of the internet is even harder for individuals that use it to operate and maintain their business since they must be on it in order to work. If you are easily distracted by the internet it is important to consider what you can do to combat this problem. Some people find that it is helpful to limit the sites they can visit during the day while they are working while others give themselves 15 minutes to surf and play around before forcing themselves to go back to the tasks at hand. The final major distraction some people face when they work at home is their telephone. You can be right in the middle of a major project when the phone rings. This requires you to get up and answer it thus interrupting you and distracting you from the task you need to complete. Sometimes the people on the other end of the line are interested in talking to you for a significant period of time which can further delay your work. You can take steps to minimize this by installing a separate phone line for your business. This allows you to answer the business phone during the day and let your answering machine pick up all your personal calls on the other line. Then when you are on a break from your work you can listen to the messages and write down each person that you need to call back. This can then be done in the evening after you*ve finished working for the day.
